What To Expect...
Osteopathy:
Osteopathy
attempts to look at the origin of pain - how it has started, what can
be done to decrease the effects and how to address the cause.
For
example, if you present with lower back pain, not only would we treat
the area for symptomatic relief, but we would endeavour to find out:
- Are the
pelvis or hips causing the pain
If
so, we would look at balancing the hips and pelvis to find equality
between the two sides in which there would be a stable base for the
spine to create movement.
- Is there a
difference in the length of the legs
If
so, further examination would elucidate if this were the cause of
tightness through the hips rather than a physical difference in length.
- Is there a
lack of flexibility causing recurring pain or stiffness
A
personalised programme of stretching would be recommended which would
not take more than 5 minutes of your daily routine.
Massage Therapy:
For an intitial consultation, you can expect to be asked:
- What kind of massage you would like
- How long you would like the treatment to last (30 mins or
60mins)
- If you have any other health conditions that may affect the
massage
After that, it's a simple case of drifting off into a state of
complete relaxation!
Naturopathy:
For a first time 90 minute visit, you can expect to fill out a
questionnaire regarding your general health and any major problems you
have experienced.
After consulting the aforementioned questionnaire, the
practitioner will then spend time going through your history. This will
include the history of your primary concern and any
associated symptoms. Often they will take your family history, dietary
history and lifestyle history. A review of all the body systems may
also be undertaken to make ensure nothing is missed and all possible
links are found.
Now for the practical part - after all this talking, the
practitioner will then go through some diagnostic procedures. Depending
on what they are qualified in, this may include:
- Analysis of height
- Weight
- Blood pressure
- Urinary tests
- VLA machines or wellness scans
After getting this information, it is then collated with the
earlier notes to form a complete picture of how your body is
functioning. From here, the practitioner may then recommend nutrients,
herbs, vitamins, minerals, Bach Flowers, Bush Flowers, teas or
homeopathic complexes that may be suitable for you. They will also make
dietary and lifestyle adjustments to suit your condition.
